My Wedding

About a month ago I got married. I was debating whether to share everything online. You know, in case Judgey Judgerson and Bitchy McGee popped up to offer their opinions. But then I thought – who gives a fuck if someone doesn’t like the flowers or my dress? Not me. John and I had a great day with family and friends and here are some photos from the day

The bridesmaids dresses were from Gorman. I knew from the start that I didn’t want my bridesmaids in overly fancy, or over-the-top gowns that would make them feel uncomfortable and didn’t make them feel like themselves. I’ve been a fan of Gorman for a long time and when I seen the Gorman x Liz Payne collaboration I knew these were the dresses and luckily all the maids loved them too. Our flower girl’s dress was from Boden and I want one in adult size too!

The best men’s suits were from Topman and were blush pink. You might assume that I chose these and forced the boys to wear them but they picked them out themselves! I was VERY happy.

The whole day, ceremony and reception was held at Ace Hotel in London. We had a small budget and searched for so long to find somewhere we could afford and we loved. We looked at a lot of warehouse spaces and studios as possibilities. As a stylist and John as a set builder this seemed like a nice option as we could use both our skills to dress the space. But the thought of running around on the morning of our wedding building and dressing a space and the stress that would cause filled us with dread.

I saw a wedding at Ace featured on a wedding blog and was surprised as we hadn’t even considered a hotel and assumed we couldn’t afford it. Turns out we could! We got married on the top floor with a beautiful view of the London skyline and a balcony and roof terrace to enjoy the sunshine on.

My dress was from Kite & Butterfly. The brand is based in the US and as soon as I saw it I knew this was my dress. I felt very strongly about not spending a fortune on a dress that I’d be wearing once. I saw so many vintage and high street dresses that I was considering as options but this one kept calling to me. Soon after I found the dress, Luella’s bridal boutique in Wimbledon became the first UK stockist of Kite & Butterfly so I made an appointment as soon as I heard the announcement. I got the dress over a year before the wedding. I am THAT organised.

Let’s talk about the cake though! Our cake and donuts were made by Kit & Nancy  and were amazing. We built a donut wall for the mini donuts and the cake was painted with pastel icing and looked like a delicious sculpture. Laura from Kit & Nancy came over all the way from Holland to bake everything for us and we’re so happy she could do this for us.

The flowers and plants were all from Geo-Fleur. Ace hotel is a very green and leafy space already but I knew I wanted more! Sophie created a plant backdrop for the ceremony and it’s where we sat during dinner and it felt like we were sitting in a little jungle.

I’m now officially Auntie Clare to all these lovely people

We were lucky enough to have 3 photographers there that day. The perks of working in the creative industry! All photos are by our friends  Garry Maclennan Photography and Indeed Images.

Weddings are a funny thing. There’s so much pressure to do certain things and so many questions and expectations from people. Both our families were super chilled out during the whole planning process and we did things our own way and didn’t stick to too many traditions. The wedding was small and I’m so glad it was. It was so intimate and full of family and close friends. We got to spend time with everyone and it didn’t feel too out of control and didn’t break the budget either.

HAM

I recently styled some lifestyle shots for HAM with the brief to use no colour – only black, white and grey. It’s one of the first shoots I’ve ever done that was completely monochrome! I was a bit scared at first but I actually found it a lot easier than my full colour shoots. I’m thinking about banning colour from my sets forever! Of course I’m joking. Can you imagine?!

Crafting With Mason Jars

3

I had a little DIY day this weekend and tried out one of the projects from Hester Van Overbeek’s new book Crafting With Mason Jars. There are over 35 projects to choose from, all involving glass jars, bottles and containers.

I chose this wall mounted vase DIY to tackle on Sunday. It was so simple and took me around 30 minutes (with paint drying time). I love it and think I’m going to incorporate the idea into our wedding decor next year!

Next up I’m going to try the mini terrarium, hanging light and hanging planter DIYs. We always have so many glass jars leftover each week from cooking/eating so this has really encouraged me to recycle them in a more useful way, rather than just put them in the recycling bin!

Crafting With Mason Jars is out now, published by CICO Books.

HAM SUPERHERO RABBIT STICKER

I recently worked with HAM to style their new collection of silhouette wall stickers. The stickers are nice and big at around 1 metre and are completely repositionable. They are also really thick too! That might be a weird thing to say but it’s true. I use a lot of vinyl stickers and lettering on shoots and at events and most of the time, they are pretty flimsy and easy to tear when applying. The HAM stickers are a dream to work with! And easy to remove too so perfect for renters.

Here are some of my favourite images from the shoot.

The stickers will launch in April and I can’t wait to see how people style them in their homes.
